Sharp Launching Smartphones In Southeast Asian Market

(GSM Insider) - Sharp Launching Smartphones In Southeast Asian Market.

The latest news from Digitimes stated that Sharp is launching its smartphone in Southeast Asian market.

Commtiva Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn Electronics formed a partnership with local distributors in Thailand before launched the Sharp smartphones in that Southeast Asian country. Commtiva Technology is responsible for the launching of Sharp smartphones for Southeast Asian market.

Actually, Sharp's smartphones already available in some of the Southeast Asian countries included Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. But Sharp is interested in other Southeast Asian market as well.

(GSM Insider) - Employees Go On Strike As Foxconn Refused To Pay Year End Bonus.


In less than a month, it’s the Lunar New Year festival. All the factories in China are preparing for the year-end bonus for employees and ready for distribution to employees. But some unhappy incident was happened at Foxconn plant in Beijing. 

 Three days ago, there were about thousands of Foxconn employees went on strike as they were dissatisfied with the year-end bonus and salary increment. The employees that involved asking for explanation from an employee is said to be a high position executive

One day later, Foxconn explained that the employees were not on strike as it was just about the discussion on the year-end bonus and increment of salary. Many employees were dissatisfied with the decision of the company.

As Lunar New Year just around the corner, incidents like this should not happen at all.

(GSM Insider) - Rumour: Foxconn Plans To Build R&D Centre In Japan With At Least $1 billion Investment

Foxconn is not a stranger for OEMs as iPhone, iPad and Amazon Kindle are manufactured by this Taiwan based company. However, Foxconn seeks for improvement as it plans for new R&D Centre in Japan.


According to news from China, Foxconn preparing to build a Research and Development Centre in Japan as more than $1 billion going to invest at the R&D Centre in 2013 alone.

At the moment, Foxconn considers some locations for the R&D Centre that include Tokyo and Osaka. The R&D Centre is focusing on display, optics and touch screen technology. 

According to tipster, Foxconn plans to build R&D Centre in Japan as Japan has the leading technology in display. From this investment, Foxconn hopes to learn from Japanese company.

RUMOUR: Sony Interested To Ditch Battery Business, Foxconn and BYD Interested To Purchase

(GSM Insider) - There are rumours stated that Sony set to sell of its battery business in order to cut the costs while there are potential buyers as well.


According to Digitimes, two of the potential buyers of Sony battery is Foxconn International and BYD from Chinese. 

The main reason that caused Sony to ditch its battery business as it feels the battery business no longer competitive as there are more companies entered the market. The main competitors for Sony battery is from China and South Korea

Report: Foxconn Starts Manufacturing Smartphones From Amazon and Microsoft

(GSM Insider) - In the latest report, Foxconn already received the orders to produce the smartphones from Amazon and Microsoft.


Foxconn is the manufacturer for Apple, Sony, Nokia, Lenovo, XiaoMi, Huawei, ZTE and etc. The main point is Foxconn manufactured the Kindle for Amazon as well. 

In the latest reports, Foxconn already received the order to start manufacturing the smartphones from Amazon and Microsoft. The launch date of both products will be at around mid-2013.

Microsoft brand smartphone will still base on the Surface brand. It could be the arrival of Microsoft Surface Phone. It is set to run on Windows Phone 8

The Amazon phone is said to based on Android just like those Kindles. But it will have own Amazon Marketplace. It remains mysterious on the name of Amazon phone.

Microsoft Preparing Surface Brand Windows Phone 8 Devices, Manufactured by Foxconn?

(GSM Insider) - Microsoft might follow the footsteps of Google by introduce own brand smartphone. Just look at the Nexus smartphones from Google. LG Nexus 4 is one of the hottest Android device in the market. 


According to latest source, Microsoft really interested in developing own brand smartphone. It was predicted that Microsoft will continue to use the Surface brand for its smartphone-line. So it might name as the Surface Phone or Microsoft Surface Phone. The source also stated the Microsoft Surface Phone going to manufacture by Foxconn. 

Everything is yet to confirm by Microsoft or Foxconn. It needs sometimes for Microsoft to think about the possible ways to emulate the success of Nexus smartphones. We might see Microsoft Surface Phone with Windows Phone versus Google Nexus with Android soon.

Exclusive: Foxconn Plans To Set Up Plant In United States

(GSM Insider) - According to market analyst, Foxconn set to open new production plant in the United States. There are two plants on the planning that will located at Detroit and Los Angeles separately.


Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou stated during interview that Foxconn set to provide training for engineers in the United States. The training will be located in Taiwan and China so that the engineers are able to learn Chinese language and the production processor of Foxconn. 

He added that those engineers are able to assist the production of Foxconn plants in the United States. He concluded that Foxconn in talks with MIT for the employees training programme. 

It is said that the plants in the United States will responsible for manufacturing LED panels. Soon, we might have chances to see electronics products that Made in the USA.

More Than 10 People Died In Latest Riot At Foxconn Plant As Employees and Securities Clashed

(GSM Insider) - In the latest problem related to Apple, riot happened in Foxconn Plant that located in Shaanxi, China. The clashes caused more than 10 deaths and many are wounded.


The riot said to be among the securities and the employees. When the riot happened, more than a thousand employees attack the securities and cause the damages to the properties in the plant area.

According to rumour, this incident started after security attacked one of the employee and caused the dissatisfaction among other employees. However, there are no truth or statement from Foxconn yet as police still investigating this incident.  [Source]

Foxconn Chairman Slams Sharp Over Delay of Agreement

(GSM Insider) - There are rumours stated that Foxconn may quit in the partnership with Sharp. This is because Sharp's board of director does not give any response to Foxconn on this issue. 

According to report, Foxconn interested to invest in Sharp to allow them to maintain competitive in display market with conditions. The conditions include Foxconn to gain control power on Sharp. But the board of director of Sharp havent give any decision to Foxcoon on this. 


Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou slammed the slow decision making of Sharp regarding in this issue. However, reports from Japan stated that Sharp not considering the options from Foxconn yet. In case Foxconn decided not to invest in Sharp, they will have plan B for themselves.

Foxconn is not short of capital since they are the manufacturers of Apple iPhone. iPhone 5 are said to be in the manufacturing state at the moment.
