Japanese Carrier Softbank In Talks With Sprint Over Acquisitions

(GSM Insider) While there are rumours stating that Japanese mobile operator Softbank interested to takeover Sprint, Sprint has make official announcement that the talks between both parties are going on. There are no confirmation on when the deal going to conclude.

Here is the official press release from Sprint:

“Sprint Confirms Discussions with Softbank on a Possible Transaction

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), October 11, 2012 – Sprint (NYSE: S) today confirmed that it is currently engaged in discussions with Softbank regarding a potential substantial investment by Softbank in Sprint. Although there can be no assurances that these discussions will result in any transaction or on what terms any transaction may occur, such a transaction could involve a change of control of Sprint. Sprint does not intend to comment further unless and until an agreement is reached.” – Sprint

We dont know what's going to happen with the Sprint if Softbank successfully acquired it. Sprint is currently the third largest mobile operator in the United States after AT&T and Verizon. This is not just a small investment but Softbank wants to fully acquire Sprint and in total control of it. Will it brings new challenges to other carriers in the United States?  Maybe.  [Sprint USA]
